Trafigura is recruiting a financial controller for its shipping and bunkering operations in Athens.

The role involves accounting and controlling activities for legal entities operating in the shipping and bunkering sectors, with the successful candidate reporting to the regional European controller.

Key responsibilities include working with upstream teams to ensure transactions are recorded appropriately in trading systems and accounting ledgers, as well as developing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures.

The position requires preparation of monthly accounting packs and coordination with various departments to analyse aged debtors, creditors, accruals and intercompany balances. The role also involves supporting Trafigura Group's annual accounts finalisation and audit process, which takes place on 30 September.

The successful candidate will work closely with the company's shared service centres and interact with departments including deals desk and operations to ensure business controls and processes comply with Trafigura's standards and local regulations.

Trafigura is seeking candidates with a minimum of four years' relevant work experience in accounting or reporting positions, including proven expertise in the shipping industry. A university degree in accounting and reporting, business administration, finance or economics is required.

Knowledge of international financial and reporting standards is essential, particularly IAS 16, IFRS 9, IFRS 15 and IFRS 16. Candidates must be fluent in English, including knowledge of shipping, accounting and economic terms, and possess advanced Excel skills.

A master's degree or chartered accountant qualification would be considered an advantage, according to the job posting.

The role may involve travel to Geneva and Mumbai.
