American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Senior Engineer Dr Ibrahim K. Muritala will take part as a panellist at the SPE North America Hydrogen Symposium 2026, where the discussion will focus on technological developments in hydrogen production, storage, transport and utilisation.

The panel session, titled 'Decoloring and Decoding Hydrogen: Shift from Green to Clean,' will look at applications across multiple sectors, from upstream operations and midstream logistics to marine and offshore solutions, as well as smaller-scale uses such as hydrogen-powered marine vessels and port equipment.

One of the central themes will be the move away from colour-based hydrogen labels towards a performance-based framework centred on verifiable carbon intensity, lifecycle emissions, scalability and compatibility with existing oil and gas infrastructure.

Dr Muritala is an active member of the SPE Hydrogen Technical Section (SPE H2TS), serves on its board and is also part of the planning committee for the event.

The symposium will be held in The Woodlands, Texas, with registration open to industry participants.

The Society of Petroleum Engineers’ Hydrogen Technical Section has been developing frameworks for hydrogen applications across the energy sector, with particular focus on integration with conventional oil and gas operations and maritime applications.
