Hong Kong-based Venture Energy Ltd has signed a green methanol procurement and supply agreement with Shanghai Shenji Energy & Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. (Shenji Energy), with the first shipment due to be delivered and loaded in the first half of 2026.

Under the agreement, Venture Energy will purchase ISCC EU-certified green methanol from Shenji Energy that complies with the European Union’s Renewable Energy Directive (RED).

The green methanol is produced from sustainable biomass feedstocks, including municipal waste, crop straw and livestock manure. These characteristics can help downstream shipping customers meet regulatory requirements, including the EU ETS (Emission Trade Scheme) and FuelEU Maritime.

Venture Energy said it will use the shipping resources of its parent company, Wah Kwong Maritime Transport Holdings Limited, together with Hong Kong’s geographical position, to link clean fuel producers in China with end users worldwide.

According to the Hong Kong firm, its offering also includes supply-chain services aimed at providing an end-to-end solution for producers seeking to supply customers at key bunkering ports across Asia from plants in mainland China.

The partnership goes beyond product supply to include collaboration on biogas feedstock and green-fuel ISCC certificates, with the companies saying this creates a practical, fully traceable framework for standardised green marine fuel trading.

Shenji Energy, founded in 2021, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Shenergy (Group) Co., Ltd. and focuses on biomass energy reuse.

Venture Energy describes its vision as being a provider of next-generation fuels, developing plant and infrastructure projects to support maritime decarbonisation across Asia and beyond. The company invests with local partners in upstream clean fuel production capacity and provides development, sales, marketing and logistics services, particularly for methanol and ammonia projects.

Venture Energy is a subsidiary of Wah Kwong, the Hong Kong-based integrated shipping company with more than 70 years of history in ship owning, ship management, marine consultancy services and dry bulk operating.
