Changhong International has started construction of the second vessel in its series of 11,400-teu LNG dual-fuel container ships for Oceanroutes Management Inc., marking the yard’s move into the continuous build phase of the 18-ship programme.

The series was jointly developed by the yard in conjunction with CIMC Offshore Engineering Research Institute (CIMC ORIC).

The design incorporates wide-body optimisation, lightweight materials and dual-fuel system integration. The yard noted that these features helped address key challenges relating to economics, lightweighting, system integration and construction processes.

The vessel has an overall length of about 299.95 metres, a beam of 48.20 metres and a depth of 27.0 metres, and will be classed by DNV.

Changhong International explained that the design also incorporates several efficiency-enhancing features, including wind deflectors, ducts and high-efficiency twisted rudders, to reduce main engine fuel consumption.

According to the yard, the vessel meets the latest applicable regulatory requirements and is designed to achieve energy savings of more than 30% compared with the EEDI Phase III standard.
