Sawgrass LNG & Power has completed the first shore-to-ship LNG bunkering operation at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, supplying fuel to the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection vessel Ilma on 26 March.

According to the company, the operation marked the first time LNG had been delivered by shore-to-ship transfer at the Florida port and represented a further step in the development of LNG as a marine fuel option in South Florida.

The bunkering was carried out in coordination with the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Port Everglades, the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Miami, Broward Sheriff’s Office and REV.

Neil J. Kutchera, Assistant Director of Energy and Innovation at Port Everglades, remarked: “This is a defining moment for Port Everglades and our partners, Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection and Sawgrass LNG & Power. We are excited to have this lower-carbon fuel available for both landside and waterside delivery and applaud Ritz-Carlton and Sawgrass LNG for their commitment to safety and sustainability.”

The company said the operation involved extensive planning, safety oversight and coordination between multiple parties.

Daniel McLaughlin, President & Chief Commercial Officer of Sawgrass LNG & Power, commented: “We are deeply appreciative of our partners, Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Port Everglades, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Miami, Broward Sheriff's Office, and REV, for their role in executing this milestone operation. This achievement reflects a shared commitment to safety and operational excellence, and we look forward to many future bunkering operations at Port Everglades.”

Sawgrass LNG & Power, based in Miami, Florida, supplies LNG and gas-to-power solutions across the southeastern US and the Caribbean, including marine bunkering services.
