Stena RoRo has taken delivery of the 13th vessel in its 15-ship E-Flexer RoPax ferry series from the China Merchants Industry shipyard in Weihai, China.
The vessel, named Capu Rossu, was handed over to Corsica Linea following delivery to Stena RoRo. The ship is scheduled to begin commercial operations in mid-June, trading between Marseille and Corsica.
The E-Flexer series is based on a design that is larger than typical standard RoPax ferries and is designed for flexibility, with each ship tailored to operators’ technical and commercial requirements. The vessels feature a hull form, multifuel engines and Battery Power Class notation, according to Stena RoRo.
Per Westling, CEO, Stena RoRo, said: "Due to today’s fast development of the hull form design and propulsion optimisation in combination with the Battery Power systems we now start to install on our ships, it is clear that ordering new ships will be the most important and strongest tool to reduce the CO2 emissions of the ferry industry."
The vessel has been built by the China Merchants Industry Weihai shipyard in China. Stena RoRo has been cooperating with the shipyard since 2016, resulting in 19 orders. Of these, 15 have been E-Flexers, two NewMax RoRo ships and two C-Flexer RoRo ships.
Westling added: "The cooperation between the CMI Weihai shipyard and Stena RoRo has been instrumental to the successful deliveries of ships, and it has made it possible for us to deliver tailor-made ships both to our own ferry operator Stena Line and also to several external ferry companies with the highest quality and on time."
The Capu Rossu measures 203 metres in length with a draught of 6.5 metres and a width of 27.8 metres. The vessel has a capacity for 1,000 passengers and 2,500 lane metres for freight.
