Bermuda Container Line (BCL) has announced it will introduce an emergency bunker surcharge of $150 per twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) and 4.25% for roll-on/roll-off cargo, citing a spike in fuel costs attributed to conflict in Iran.
The surcharge will take effect on 27 April, applicable to Voyage 2369 sailing on 1 May, according to a customer notice issued by the company on 27 March.
The emergency bunker surcharge will be applied in addition to the normal fuel surcharge already applicable to shipments, BCL explained.
“The Iran war has caused a significant spike in fuel costs, and as a result, to keep pace with these bunker price increases, BCL will be introducing an emergency bunker surcharge,” the shipper stated.
BCL, which operates container and roll-on/roll-off shipping services between the United States and Bermuda, said it would continue to monitor fuel prices and adjust applicable fuel surcharges when appropriate.
BCL is part of Neptune Group Management Ltd., based in Hamilton, Bermuda, with US operations handled through Bermuda Agencies Ltd. in Newark, New Jersey.
