Scale Green Energy, a subsidiary of Spanish energy infrastructure company Enagás, has introduced a new LNG bunkering vessel named Alisios LNG, according to industry association Gasnam.
The vessel, with a capacity of 12,500 cubic metres, was unveiled on 12 March at an event attended by representatives from Gasnam. Alisios LNG has been built and will be operated by Scale Green Energy, while Axpo Iberia has chartered the vessel.
The bunker vessel will receive its fuel supply from the Huelva plant and is designed to handle both conventional LNG and bio-LNG for marine fuel operations.
Gasnam noted that the project supports the wider adoption of sustainable fuels in maritime transport and contributes to decarbonisation efforts in the shipping sector.
The deployment of Alisios LNG adds to Spain’s LNG bunkering capacity as sales volumes continue to increase in the Iberian Peninsula. According to data published by Gasnam in January, LNG supplied to vessels for propulsion at Spanish ports in 2025 was more than four times the volume recorded two years earlier, exceeding 8.1 TWh.
Also in January, Barcelona's port authority observed that, in order to increase bunker volumes, it would require additional barges operating at the facility following a 3% rise in LNG marine fuel sales in 2025 to 236,946 cbm.
