Piraeus Port Authority (PPA) has announced a new cooperation with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) for vehicle handling operations at the Port of Piraeus.

As part of the partnership, the pure car and truck carrier Tourmaline Ace made its inaugural call at the port on 10 March, carrying around 1,000 vehicles destined for the Greek market.

One of the newer vessels in the MOL fleet, Tourmaline Ace is equipped with an LNG propulsion system, which PPA noted can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 25–30%, nitrogen oxides by 85% and sulphur oxides by up to 98% compared with conventional fuel engines.

Su Xudong, CEO of PPA, said: “The arrival of modern next-generation vessels, such as the M/V Tourmaline Ace, strengthens the port’s position as a strategic vehicle transport hub in the wider region, while also highlighting our commitment to sustainable development and environmentally responsible port operations.”

PPA said the cooperation supports the Port of Piraeus' role in the international vehicle supply chain and reflects ongoing investments in technological development and sustainable port operations.

The authority added that such partnerships help promote transport solutions with a reduced environmental footprint while strengthening the port’s position as a regional logistics hub.
