Marine fuel supplier and trader Peninsula has highlighted the importance of reliable supply chains amid the ongoing closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which continues to disrupt global energy markets and bunker supply flows.

The company noted that roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil normally passes through the strategic waterway. The disruption has contributed to rising crude prices and increased uncertainty for shipowners, operators and charterers.

According to Peninsula, markets in Asia, which rely heavily on Gulf energy exports, are experiencing some of the most significant effects, with cargoes being delayed, redirected or withdrawn.

The situation has been further complicated by strikes on regional energy infrastructure, which have led some producers to suspend operations and intensified concerns over oil and gas availability. At the same time, insurers have signalled possible limitations to coverage for vessels transiting affected waters.

Peninsula said bunker markets are responding quickly to the disruption, with traditional supply hubs under pressure and arbitrage patterns shifting as traders seek alternative supply routes. The company described the current environment as one characterised by heightened volatility and operational risk.

Against this backdrop, Peninsula explained that it is relying on its global fuel supply network, including stock positions in multiple locations, strong liquidity and integrated control of sourcing, storage and delivery operations.

The supplier stated that these capabilities allow it to secure, finance and transport fuel during periods of market instability, helping customers maintain access to bunker supply. It also highlighted risk management services designed to help shipowners manage exposure to rising fuel costs.

With vessels increasingly diverting to alternative bunkering hubs as trade patterns adjust, Peninsula stressed that it remains focused on maintaining dependable fuel deliveries across its global operations network.
