French container shipping line, CMA CGM, has confirmed that CMA CGM Osmium, a 13,000-teu dual-fuel methanol containership, was officially named during a ceremony in South Korea on 23 February.

The vessel was welcomed by her Master, Captain Ma XunMin, and her godmother, Ms Dorothée Regazzoni, Head of Territory BNP Paribas South Korea.

CMA CGM Osmium is set to operate on the company’s M2X service, also known as the Mexico Express, which operates on a loop between East Asia and Mexico.

The newbuilding forms part of CMA CGM’s fleet development programme, which the group says supports its Net Zero Carbon 2050 objective.

At the end of January, CMA CGM took delivery of another new dual-fuel methanol-powered containership, the CMA CGM Thorium, which has also been deployed on its M2X service.

Also in January, the CMA CGM Monte Cristo — a 15,000-teu containership equipped with dual-fuel capability to operate on methanol — was named as the box carrier's 400th fully owned vessel.

And in December, the French shipping firm named the dual-fuel methanol vessels CMA CGM Eugenie and CMA CGM Antigone, which will operate on the BEX2 route connecting Asia, the Middle East and Mediterranean.
