Capital Ship Management Corp has taken delivery of a new very large crude carrier (VLCC), adding the LNG-ready tanker M/T Aristotelis II to its fleet following construction at Hengli Heavy Industries in China.

The 307,000-dwt vessel was delivered on 16 February and has been designed to exceed mandatory international environmental standards. It is classed by Lloyd’s Register with the ECO notation, including the descriptive notes EEDI-3, P and EAL, as well as the NAV1 notation for enhanced navigational safety.

The tanker is equipped with a range of energy-saving devices, including pre-shrouded vanes and hydrodynamic improvements, to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

M/T Aristotelis II has also been assigned the fuel gas-ready notation GR(NG,A), confirming that the vessel is structurally and technically prepared for a future conversion to LNG propulsion. Capital Ship Management said the design supports long-term decarbonisation strategies and ongoing compliance with tightening emission requirements for VLCCs.

To meet sulphur oxide limits under MARPOL Annex VI, the vessel is fitted with an open-loop exhaust gas cleaning system, carrying the EGCS (OPEN, Partial) notation.

The company added that accommodation and interior spaces exceed prevailing industry standards, with a focus on ergonomic design, crew comfort and long-term habitability.

Delivery ceremonies were held at the Hengli shipyard, with Mrs Fan Hongwei named as the vessel’s godmother. The event was attended by senior representatives from Capital Group, Hengli Group and partner organisations.
