CircleProcess Technologies has been awarded a Small Business Innovation Grant (SBIG – Phase 2) by the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation (QRDI) Council to develop an onboard system that converts LNG into hydrogen fuel and solid carbon.
The award was announced during LNG2026 Qatar and supports Project ReformLNG, an initiative aimed at producing low-emission hydrogen directly onboard vessels for use in maritime and LNG operations.
American Bureau of Shipping, which is supporting the project, said the technology would allow ships to generate hydrogen fuel from LNG while creating solid carbon as a byproduct, offering an alternative pathway to reducing emissions.
The project is being led by CircleProcess Technologies in collaboration with Milaha, Hamad Bin Khalifa University and Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP).
ABS said the consortium brings together industry, academic and startup expertise to help move the technology from concept toward real-world application.
