Synergy Marine Group has assumed technical management of two newly delivered LNG dual-fuel container vessels owned by Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation.
The ships, YM Willpower and YM Worthiness, were delivered from Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan and formally named earlier this month in a ceremony attended by senior representatives from Yang Ming, the shipbuilder and Synergy Marine Group.
Each vessel has a nominal capacity of approximately 15,500 TEU and is fitted with high-pressure dual-fuel LNG main engines, allowing operation on liquefied natural gas as well as conventional marine fuel. The design is intended to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, sulphur oxides and particulate matter while supporting compliance with current and future environmental regulations.
The vessels also incorporate energy-efficient hull forms, along with advanced automation and monitoring systems, to improve operational performance.
Under Synergy Marine Group’s technical management, YM Willpower and YM Worthiness will be supported by dedicated shore-based teams and crews trained in LNG-fuelled operations. The management scope covers crewing, maintenance, safety management systems, performance monitoring and lifecycle technical support, with a focus on safe fuel handling and regulatory compliance.
Feng-Ming Tsai, chairman of Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation, commentede: "Yang Ming continues to pursue a disciplined and long-term approach to fleet development. The introduction of YM Willpower and YM Worthiness marks an important step in strengthening our environmental performance while maintaining service reliability across our global network."
Captain James J. S. Jeng, chief marine technology officer and executive vice president at Yang Ming, noted: "LNG dual-fuel propulsion, combined with advanced ship systems, provides both environmental and operational benefits. Effective technical management is essential to realise these advantages in daily operations. Synergy Marine Group brings relevant experience in managing complex and fuel-diverse tonnage."
Jesper Kristensen, group CEO of Synergy Marine Group, commented: "YM Willpower and YM Worthiness are sophisticated assets designed for a changing regulatory and environmental landscape. Our role is to ensure that these vessels are managed with care, technical discipline and consistency throughout their lifecycle."
Ajay Chaudhry, co-CEO of ship management at Synergy Marine Group, said: "The management of LNG dual-fuel container vessels requires preparation, training and operational rigour. Over recent years, we have invested in building the systems, competencies and crew readiness needed for alternative-fuel operations."
Synergy Marine Group manages a fleet of more than 750 vessels, including FSRUs, LNG and LPG carriers, bulk carriers, container vessels and oil and chemical tankers.
