Tallink Group is shifting its ferry operations between Tallinn and Helsinki towards fully renewable energy, with its two main vessels on the route set to run entirely on liquefied biomethane.
Megastar and MyStar are set to progressively replace fossil LNG with renewable liquefied biomethane (LBM), marking a major step in reducing the carbon footprint of one of the busiest passenger and freight corridors across the Gulf of Finland.
LBM already accounted for 74% of fuel consumption on the route in January, with Tallink Group now targeting a complete transition to renewable fuel in the near term.
Supply is being provided by Elenger, with all deliveries certified under international standards. The company highlighted that certification is particularly important for freight customers tracking emissions across their logistics chains.
Both ferries are LNG-powered vessels capable of using biomethane as a direct replacement fuel, allowing the shift to renewable energy without major technical modifications.
