CMA CGM has named its 400th fully owned vessel, marking a fleet ownership milestone for the French container shipping group.

The vessel, CMA CGM Monte Cristo, is a 15,000-teu containership equipped with dual-fuel capability to operate on methanol.

CMA CGM said the vessel reflects its long-term fleet strategy and its ambition to advance more sustainable shipping solutions.

Methanol-capable vessels form part of CMA CGM’s broader fleet renewal and newbuilding strategy as container shipping lines invest in alternative fuels to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

In December, the French shipping firm named the dual-fuel methanol vessels CMA CGM Eugenie and CMA CGM Antigone, which are to operate on the BEX2 route connecting Asia, the Middle East and Mediterranean.

And in October, the naming ceremony was held for the dual-fuel methanol vessel CMA CGM Helium, which has also been deployed on the BEX2 route, whilst in September, it took delivery of CMA CGM Mercury, the fifth vessel in its 13,000-teu dual-fuel methanol series.
