Petrobras has agreed to supply renewable-content bunker fuel to Norwegian chemical tanker operator Odfjell, marking the Brazilian state oil company’s entry into the international low-carbon marine fuels market.

Under the agreement, Petrobras will deliver up to 12,000 tonnes of VLS B24 during 2026. The product is a very-low-sulphur fuel oil containing 24% biodiesel and 76% mineral oil, produced at Petrobras refineries and blended at the Terminal de Rio Grande (TERIG). Supply will be carried out using dedicated barges from the terminal.

The VLS B24 carries International Sustainability and Carbon Certification – EU (ISCC EU), which provides traceability and verifies compliance with sustainability criteria across the biofuel production chain. Petrobras said the fuel also meets the requirements of the EU’s FuelEU Maritime regulation, which mandates progressive reductions in greenhouse gas intensity for fuels used by vessels calling at European ports.

“The commercialisation of VLS B24 with a company of strong international operations demonstrates Petrobras' consistent advance towards a low-carbon market, in synergy with our Business Plan 2026-2030. The initiative not only generates value for the business, but also enables concrete solutions in new energies and decarbonisation, reinforcing our commitment to sustainability and innovation”, said Claudio Schlosser, Director of Logistics, Commercialisation and Markets, Petrobras.

Odfjell operates a fleet of more than 70 vessels and transports around 600 types of liquid cargo, including chemicals, acids, edible oils and refined petroleum products. The company trades across routes in the Americas, Europe and Asia and maintains offices in several strategic locations, including São Paulo.

The supply agreement follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed in February 2025 between the Brazilian and Norwegian governments to establish a green corridor linking the two countries. The initiative aims to promote the use of low-carbon fuels and more sustainable maritime transport between Brazil and Norway.
