Jiangnan Shipyard has secured contracts for a total of 16 vessels across three separate newbuilding deals concluded during the first half of January 2026, according to announcements from the Chinese shipbuilder.

The first agreement was signed on 5 January, when Jiangnan Shipyard entered into a contract with Eastern Pacific Shipping for the construction of two 90,000-cbm old-Panamax very large ammonia carriers (VLACs). The vessels are intended for the transportation of ammonia as the sector prepares for future alternative fuel supply chains.

A second contract, involving Jiangnan Shipyard, China Shipbuilding Trading Co. and Cosco Shipping Lines, came into effect on 13 January. The agreement covers the construction of 12 LNG dual-fuel container ships, each with a nominal capacity of 18,000 TEU.

On 15 January, Jiangnan Shipyard and China Shipbuilding Trading Co. signed a further contract with Eastern Pacific Shipping for two large LNG carriers with a cargo capacity of 175,000 cbm.

The combined order intake spans ammonia carriers, LNG carriers and large container vessels, reflecting continued demand for gas-capable and dual-fuel tonnage across multiple shipping segments.

Jiangnan Shipyard said the contracts highlight market confidence in its capabilities in digital vessel design, intelligent manufacturing, and the delivery of green, low-carbon shipbuilding solutions. The yard added that it plans to continue working closely with shipowners and energy companies as the industry transitions towards lower-emission propulsion technologies.
