Maersk has taken delivery of Barcelona Maersk, completing a six-vessel class of 17,480-teu dual-fuel containerships ordered as part of its fleet renewal programme.

The vessel was built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in collaboration with Everllence and was named during a ceremony held in Ulsan, South Korea, on 12 January.

Berit Vincentz Andersen, senior communications advisor within Maersk’s Fleet Management & Technology team, served as godmother at the naming ceremony. Representatives from the vessel’s crew, Maersk’s site team and the shipyard attended the event.

Delivery of Barcelona Maersk marks the handover of the final unit in this dual-fuel series. The vessels are designed to operate on both conventional marine fuels and alternative fuels, supporting Maersk’s broader decarbonisation strategy.

Maersk has continued to invest in dual-fuel and alternative-fuel-capable tonnage as it works towards its long-term emissions reduction targets across ocean transport operations.
