During Marintec China 2025 in Shanghai, Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV) and China Merchants Heavy Industry Group (CMHI) have signed a series of agreements and issued multiple certifications to support the maritime sector’s transition toward lower emissions and increased digitalisation.

As part of the cooperation, BV and CMHI signed a Strategic Collaboration Agreement establishing a framework for joint work in green shipping, vessel innovation, offshore new-energy projects and digital solutions.

Bureau Veritas also entered into a Cybersecurity Business Cooperation Agreement with China Merchants Industry Digital Technology (CMDT) and Jiangsu Zhiwei Marine Engineering. The agreement is intended to combine technical expertise to provide cybersecurity and digital services across the maritime value chain.

Moreover, CMDT was awarded a Cybersecurity Laboratory Certificate by Bureau Veritas, recognising its capabilities in shipboard cybersecurity testing and assessment.

In addition, the classification society issued a Product Certificate for CM Energy® WindWings, a rigid sail technology designed to support reductions in vessel fuel consumption and emissions.

BV also granted Approval in Principle (AiP) certificates for three hydrogen fuel-cell vessel concepts: a 3,000-deadweight-tonne (DWT) bulk carrier, a 1,500-dwt ro-ro vessel and a 100-passenger cruise ship.

The latest agreements and certifications build on the long-standing relationship between Bureau Veritas and CMHI, reflecting continued collaboration on alternative fuels, digital technologies and low-carbon vessel development.
