CMA CGM has marked the entry of a new methanol-capable vessel into its fleet with the naming ceremony of the 15,000-teu dual-fuel containership CMA CGM Eugenie.

The ceremony took place on 17 December and saw the vessel named under the command of Captain Svilen Santana. Captain Bai Xiang’en, professor at Shanghai Maritime University, served as godmother, with Esra Bora, General Manager of CMA CGM China, also in attendance.

The dual-fuel vessel will be deployed on the carrier’s Phoenician Express (BEX2) service, which connects Asia, the Middle East and the Mediterranean. The service forms part of CMA CGM’s wider network linking key manufacturing, consumption and transhipment hubs across the three regions.

CMA CGM said the addition of CMA CGM Eugenie represents a further step in strengthening regional connectivity while supporting global trade flows. The vessel’s propulsion system allows operation on either conventional marine fuel or methanol, offering operational flexibility as alternative fuel supply chains continue to develop.

CMA-CGM's has previously declared that its goal is to reach around 150 low-carbon vessels by 2029.

Earlier this month, the shipper named the dual-fuel methanol vessel CMA CGM Antigone, which is to operate on the BEX2 route connecting Asia, the Middle East and Mediterranean.

In September, it took delivery of CMA CGM Mercury, the fifth vessel in its 13,000-teu dual-fuel methanol series, whilst in October, the naming ceremony was held for the dual-fuel methanol vessel CMA CGM Helium, which has also been deployed on the BEX2 route.
