Singapore-based marine fuels supplier Golden Island has appointed Capt. Kevin Wong as Chief Operating Officer.
The company noted that Capt. Wong brings valuable experience spanning seafaring, port management, regulatory operations and sustainable maritime technologies, with senior leadership roles held across both public and private sectors.
Capt. Wong previously served as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Marketing Officer at Sea Forrest over a two-year period. The company specializes in providing carbon-reducing maritime solutions.
He also spent more than eight years at the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), including four years as Port Master.
In his new position, Capt. Wong will oversee ship management and the development of low-carbon marine fuels as part of Golden Island's business expansion plans.
The appointment comes as the marine fuels industry faces increasing pressure to transition toward lower-carbon alternatives amid tightening environmental regulations and decarbonisation targets.
Golden Island was one of three companies recently authorised by the MPA to provide methanol bunkering services in Singapore, from 1 January 2026.
The supplier's four methanol-ready IMO Type II tankers — Golden Antares, Golden Sirius, Golden Centaurus and Golden Carina — are set to be available for methanol bunkering operations in the first quarter of 2026.
