CMA CGM has officially named its new dual-fuel methanol containership, CMA CGM Krypton, at a ceremony held in South Korea, the company announced on 7 December. The vessel was named under the command of Captain Vadym Byelash, with Ms Eun-Hyung Lee, Professor at Kookmin University, serving as Godmother.

With a capacity of 13,000 TEUs, the CMA CGM Krypton will join the carrier’s Phoenician Express (BEX2) service, connecting key trade corridors across Asia, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East.

The addition of the methanol-fuelled vessel expands CMA CGM's alternative-fuel fleet as part of its decarbonisation efforts.

In October, the French shipping line CMA CGM named its dual-fuel methanol vessel CMA CGM Helium, also in a ceremony held in South Korea.

And in September, the company took delivery of CMA CGM Mercury, the fifth vessel in its 13,000-teu dual-fuel methanol series.
