A 350-metre dual-fuel methanol vessel has become the largest Maersk ship to call at Ghana's Tema Port, according to the shipping line.

The Beijing Maersk, with a capacity of 17,480 TEUs, berthed in November at the terminal operated through a joint venture between Maersk and Meridian Port Services (MPS).

Maersk said the call demonstrates Tema's capability to handle mega vessels and positions Ghana as a transshipment hub for West Africa, whilst adding that the vessel's methanol-enabled design aligns with APM Terminals' 2040 net-zero ambition.

Built in 2025, the Beijing Maersk was officially delivered to Maersk on July 25.

According to ship-tracking data, the boxship arrived in Tema on November 1 and departed three days later, with Maersk noting that Ghanaian cocoa was being transported.
