South Korean shipping company HMM has held a naming ceremony for HMM Clover, a 9,000 TEU methanol-powered containership.

The vessel is the second in a series of nine vessels capable of running on bio-methanol. The series includes HMM Green, which was delivered earlier this year.

The carrier stated that the addition of these vessels to its fleet supports both its service network expansion and its commitment to sustainable shipping operations.

HMM has set a target of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2045, five years earlier than the IMO's 2050 net‑zero ambition. And in its mid‑to‑long‑term strategy, HMM has said it intends to acquire approximately 70 "green vessels" — including LNG‑ready and methanol dual‑fuel ships — by 2030.

In October, HMM placed a KRW 4 trillion ($2.8bn) newbuilding order comprising 12 container ships that will all feature LNG dual-fuel capability.
