Dubai-based marine fuels trader Oilmar DMCC has announced the expansion of its trading department beyond marine fuels into cargo and base oil trading.

The company has appointed two senior traders to spearhead the new trading desks. Alvaro Verdu joins as senior cargo trader in Dubai, while Siddarth Bhavani takes the role of senior base oil trader, also based in Dubai.

Verdu brings experience in energy markets and has previously led global trading strategies and operational logistics. Prior to joining Oilmar in June 2025, he was employed for two years at Madrid-based Viroque Energy, serving as Oil Products Trader before being promoted to the role of Head of Trading and Operations. Verdu also spent almost two years at CEPSA (Moeve), first as Trading Analyst and later as Marine Fuels Trader. Oilmar said his expertise will strengthen its new cargo trading desk and drive growth across international markets.

Bhavani brings more than 12 years of experience in the marine fuels and base oils sector, with knowledge spanning production, marketing, and global trading. He previously served as Sales and Ops Engineer at Gulf Petrochem, and as Oil Trader at Cockett Group. Oilmar said his leadership will be key in building and expanding its base oil trading desk.

The expansion represents a diversification strategy for Oilmar DMCC, which has traditionally focused on marine fuels trading. The company said it remains committed to "powering tomorrow's trade today" and expressed confidence that the new hires will enhance its capabilities and expand its footprint across global markets.

According to its website, Dubai-headqartered Oilmar has offices in Greece, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Switzerland, Turkey and UAE.
