Pacific International Lines (PIL) held the naming ceremony for its 8,200 TEU LNG dual-fuel container vessel Kota Odyssey at the Port of Tema on September 16, marking the first such ceremony for the Singapore-based shipping line in Ghana.

The vessel, part of PIL's "O" Class series, was named by Ghana's Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, who served as Lady Sponsor. The ceremony was attended by Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe and Deputy Transport Minister Dorcas Affo-Toffey.

Speaking at the event, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang said: "This ceremony is a celebration of maritime innovation and a testament to Ghana's growing stature in regional trade and logistics. For their part, PIL's local and regional offices have long contributed to port and intermodal connectivity."

She added that the deployment represented "a sign of the longstanding and ever-growing relationship between Ghana and Singapore," noting both nations' "common commitment to innovation and sustainability."

The Kota Odyssey will operate on PIL's South West Africa Service, providing weekly connections between China, Singapore, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, and Côte d'Ivoire.

PIL CEO Lars Kastrup said: "Naming this vessel in Ghana reflects our deep-rooted presence and growing investment in the country. Ghana plays a vital role in our network, not only as a key gateway into West Africa but also as a strategic hub for regional connectivity and inland transport."
