Commodities trading company HMS Bergbau AG has expanded into marine fuel and lubricants trading as part of its diversification strategy, the Berlin-based firm has announced.
The company says it has commenced operations and is "active from several strategically important locations globally," having already completed initial transactions in the bunkering and marine lubricants sector and acquired an experienced team of marine fuel specialists to strengthen its market presence, particularly in Asia and South America.
According to LinkedIn profiles, several former Cockett Group employees have joined HMS Bergbau in Singapore and Dubai. In UAE, Ameed Qutob is named as Global Business Manager - Lubricants and Base Oil; and Derya Dikgoz is Lubricants and Bunker Trader. Additionally, Dubai-based Ashiq Hameed has been appointed Bunker Trader.
In Singapore, meanwhile, ex-Cockett employee Ashley Kim is listed as Fuel Trader and Leon Lim as having joined HMS Bergbau's Fuel Division.
HMS Bergbau said its marine fuel services include round-the-clock operational and technical support, supply guarantees, worldwide resales to major ports, and tailored supply solutions for coastal and deep-sea vessels.
"The entry into marine fuel and lubricant trading is a significant step for HMS Bergbau AG," commented Dennis Schwindt, chief executive of HMS Bergbau. "We are combining our proven strength in global commodities trading with the excellent expertise of our new team. This positions us strongly in further dynamically growing and forward-looking market segments. The first successful transactions confirm our concept and highlight the potential this business areas holds for us."
HMS Bergbau's core business includes international trading of solid and liquid fuels, cementitious products, and ore and metal products. The company is active primarily in Asia, Africa, and Europe, serving industrial consumers and energy traders and producers.
