Singapore and India have formalised their collaboration on establishing a green and digital shipping corridor through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during Prime Minister Lawrence Wong's official visit to New Delhi on September 4.

The MoU, witnessed by the Prime Ministers of both countries, establishes the Singapore-India Green and Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC), according to Singapore's Maritime and Port Authority (MPA).

Under the agreement, both countries will work with industry partners to develop infrastructure and technologies supporting the maritime sector's transition to zero or near-zero greenhouse gas emission fuels. The partnership also encompasses digital information exchange and joint research into emerging green technologies and solutions.

The collaboration leverages India's renewable energy capacity and industrial base, which support the production and export of alternative marine fuels. Singapore brings its position as a major hub port with established bunkering operations and a growing ecosystem for maritime innovation.

The partnership is expected to support ongoing digitalisation and decarbonisation efforts within the maritime sector, as the industry faces increasing pressure to reduce emissions and adopt cleaner fuel alternatives.
