Seaspan has entered into agreements with two shipyards under the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) Group for the construction of twelve 9,200 TEU LNG-ready container vessels.
The company said the order represents an investment in sustainable and scalable fleet expansion. The LNG-ready design is intended to support the industry's transition toward cleaner energy solutions, with the vessels designed for future conversion to dual fuel technologies.
According to Seaspan, the design aligns with the company's decarbonisation strategy and goals.
All twelve vessels are scheduled for delivery by the end of 2028 and will be chartered for an extended period under a long-term agreement with a global liner company, which Seaspan did not identify.
The company described the agreement as marking another development in its orderbook, reinforcing its position as an owner and builder of container ships designed to meet the operational and environmental requirements of its customers.
Seaspan operates one of the world's largest container vessel fleets, providing services to major shipping lines. The company is based in Hong Kong and listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
