Shell has completed its first LNG bunkering operation with South Korean logistics firm Hyundai Glovis in Singapore.

The bunkering operation involved the Glovis Selene — a 7,000 car equivalent unit (CEU) carrier delivered in 2024 and equipped with 12 vehicle decks.

According to Shell's Dexter Belmar, Vice President Global Downstream LNG, the company is "excited to support Hyundai Glovis on this journey" and expects to bunker their vessels again with Shell's global LNG network.

Hyundai Glovis operates as the logistics arm behind Hyundai and Kia's global exports whilst also providing third-party services to car manufacturers worldwide.

In its path towards net-zero emissions, Hyundai Glovis plans to operate 32 LNG dual-fuel pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) by 2028. Seven of these vessels are already in service, including including the Glovis Selene.

The logistics firm's dual-fuel car carriers are said to have capacities of up to 10,800 CEU, positioning them among the largest LNG dual-fuel car carriers globally. The vessels are designed to lower emissions for finished vehicle logistics operations.

The Singapore bunkering operation represents the latest development for Shell in the marine LNG fuel sector. Last week, the firm noted that it had already performed more than 2,800 LNG bunkering operations across 26 global ports

And in June, K Line received its first delivery of bio-LNG fuel, delivered by Shell at port of Zeebrugge, Belgium.
