Market Briefing

A/S Global Risk Management logo. All eyes on data this afternoon - volatility ahead (Brent: $56.9)

Oil prices dropped slightly on weaker- than-expected U.S. retail sales data and ample supply outlook.

Data from the U.S. was mixed yesterday; retail sales disappointed, but the jobs report - initial jobless claims - came out better than expected. Markets are now struggling to decide if this will affect the anticipated soon-to-come interest rate hike by the Fed.

The largest U.S. refinery workers' strike for 35 years could be coming to an end next week. This could increase refinery output and possibly reduce the swelling crude oil stockpiles in the country.

The U.N. has called the rival parties in Libya to peace talks; currently one of the main disputes between the parties is the control of oil revenues. Oil output from the country is dwindling compared to four years ago due to fighting, disruptions and lack of investments/maintenance in the industry.

Talks on Iranian nuclear programme will resume next week between six world powers and Iran.

Expect some volatility around the publishing of the U.S. inflation and consumer expectations data this afternoon.
