Kenya: IFO supplier to launch mid-August

29 Jul 2011 17:08 GMT

Kenyan firm reveals that it is due to commence supplying intermediate fuel oil towards the middle of next month.

Kenya-based bunker supplier Fossil Fuels Ltd. has today revealed that it is due to commence supplying 180-centistoke (cst) intermediate fuel oil at the port of Mombasa and offshore on August 17th

As previously reported on Bunker Index, the company had intended to introduce two double-hulled vessels into the market during the first week of August, however the date has now been put back by two weeks.

Fossil Fuels Ltd. has, up until now, specialized in supplying only MGO to clients calling at Mombasa - an operation which was launched in January 2010.

From next month the company will be able to target a larger number of ships by being able to meet the needs of operators requiring both intermediate fuel oil and distillates.

According to Fossil Fuels Ltd., the company's strategy will be to supply both in port and off port limits with the Mussa-K operating inside the port of Mombasa and the larger Alpha Kirawira carrying out deliveries to clients offshore.

The Mussa-K is a tanker barge with a total storage capacity of 1200 cubic metres (cbm) and a pumping rate of 2 x 250 cbm per hour. The vessel is capable of storing two different grades of fuel, but the company intends to use it for deliveries of 180-cst only.

The tanker barge Alpha Kirawira has a storage capacity of 1500 cbm and a pumping rate of 2 x 150 cbm per hour. The vessel has onboard blending capabilities and will be used to deliver both 180-cst and MGO to customers.
