Aegean takes delivery of tanker newbuild

03 Feb 2010 06:58 GMT

New vessel is expected to deployed to the Gibraltar bunker market.

Aegean Marine Petroleum Network Inc. has announced that it has taken delivery of the Zakynthos, a 6,272 dwt double-hull bunkering tanker newbuild from Qingdao Hyundai Shipyard in China.

The new vessel is expected to be deployed to the company's market located in Gibraltar.

Commenting on the company's latest newbuild, E. Nikolas Tavlarios, President, commented, "We are pleased to continue to execute our growth strategy with the delivery of the Zakynthos. By once again expanding our high-quality logistics infrastructure, we have further enhanced our ability to meet the strong demand for modern tonnage and strengthened our leading industry brand.

"With 14 additional double-hull bunkering tanker newbuildings scheduled to be delivered this year, combined with the previously announced planned acquisition of Verbeke Bunkering N.V., Aegean is well positioned to significantly increase its market share for the global supply of marine fuel and expand future sales volumes."
