World Fuel Services (WFS) has announced the addition of a new supply vessel in the UK.

The 75-metre-long, 3,100-deadweight-tonne tanker Whitstar was deployed in early September 2018 to operate along the east and south coast.

The versatile tanker is large enough to be used for topping up storage terminals whilst also small enough to deliver bunkers directly to ships.

Owned by Whitaker Tankers, the Whitstar was built in 2004 and is fitted with versatile deep well pumps capable of delivering fuel in volumes of up to 450 cubic metres (cbm) per hour.

The vessel also features epoxy-coated cargo tanks, closed loading, tank level radars and its hull is strengthened to enable access to NAABSA berths.

"In chartering this vessel, greater control of the supply chain has been achieved with enhanced flexibility and versatility that enables WFS to provide fuel solutions together with operational excellence," WFS said.

Lizrix and Falmouth

The introduction of the Whitstar comes three months to the day since WFS announced the addition of the supply vessel Lizrix to its operation in Falmouth, South West England.

The Lizrix is a new 2,200-cbm-capacity cargo vessel that is able to segregate up to five grades and has a pumping rate of between 300 and 400 cbm per hour.

In August, WFS also announced the launch of the new Falmouth Eastern Jetty, which formed part of a major refurbishment programme of the Falmouth terminal.

The project involved the construction of a new jetty and breakwater strengthening works to replace the wharf originally opened in 1861.

Additionally, the tank farm was totally decontaminated, ageing tanks demolished, and replacement tanks constructed.

A new state-of-the-art waste oil processing plant for marine oily waste streams was also added.
