Singapore-based Sea Oil Petroleum Pte Ltd has announced the appointment of bunker industry veteran Neil Lamerton as its UK representative in a move that will also see Lamerton's Surrey-registered broking business, Oceanic Energy, trade under the name Sea Oil.

In his new role, Lamerton will continue to be based in the UK and will be responsible for the business development of Sea Oil in Europe.

"I am excited to be joining the Sea Oil team and look forward to working closely with the team and management to enhance and expand its business. The ability to add trading and physical supply to my broking portfolio is a great opportunity," Lamerton commented.

"Sea Oil's expansion to the UK is the first outside Asia. The European expansion of the company, which started trading bunkers in Asia since 1997, is the next logical choice," he added.

Koh Kuan Hua, Director of Sea Oil Petroleum, remarked: "I'm pleased to welcome Neil as our UK Representative. The addition of Neil to the team will allow us to reach out to new markets as part of Sea Oil's expansion strategy.

"I'm certain, with Neil's vast experience and understanding of the ever-changing bunker markets, we will be able to build on the value added services that we have been providing to our trusted business partners since our inception."

In a career spanning 35 years, Lamerton is one of the most experienced members of the bunker industry. He began working as a bunker purchaser at Anderson Hughes & Co in 1983, and since then has served as a bunker broker at AJ Speed and Co Ltd; Bunker Trading Manager at Marubeni UK; Commercial Director at Davies & Newman Wake Ltd; Director at KPI Bridge Oil London Ltd; Global Head of Bunkering at Gulf Petrochem Ltd; and Head of Bunkering at OilFront.

Lamerton also played a key role in establishing the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) in 1992 as its first treasurer and council member for 11 years.

Sea Oil Petroleum is a subsidiary of Thailand-listed Sea Oil Public Company Ltd, which was formed in 1997 as a physical bunker supplier, delivering bunker fuel to domestic and ocean-going vessels in Thailand waters.

Singapore-based Sea Oil Petroleum was established in 2015 and today operates as a physical bunker supplier in Thailand as well as offering worldwide bunker trading services.

Singapore team

Sea Oil Petroleum's trading team comprises Head of Trading Koh Kuan Hua and Trading Manager Stefanie Tay in addition to four bunker traders: Tan Guan Kai and Ferrine Zhuo (who both joined in 2016), and Kevin Kong and Agus Tarmizi (who joined the firm last year).

Tan holds a bachelor of business degree in supply chain and logistics from RMIT University, while Zhuo was previously employed at World Fuel Services, also in Singapore.

Kong has a bachelor's degree in accounting from Singapore Management University, and Tarmizi holds a bachelor's degree in maritime business and logistics from Plymouth University.
