Technology group Wartsila has confirmed that it has received an order to design and equip one of PSA Marine's newest harbour tugs. The order was booked in March.

The 28-metre-long, 50-tonne bollard pull harbour tug will feature two Wartsila 20DF dual-fuel engines running primarily on LNG fuel and also incorporate fuel efficiency features. It is to be built by PaxOcean Shipyard.

Wartsila has also been contracted to supply its LNGPac fuel storage and supply system as well as steerable thrusters and the Wartsila ProTouch control system.

The equipment is scheduled to be delivered at the end of 2018 and the harbour tug is slated to commence operations in Singapore around mid-2019.

"We are honoured to have been selected to provide both the ship design and an integrated propulsion solution for this modern, efficient, and environmentally sustainable harbour tug. Being the one-stop-shop for this vessel, from the design to the engineering and machinery supply, Wartsila can ensure a fully integrated and optimised harbour tug," commented Riku-Pekka Hagg, Vice President of Ship Design, Wartsila Marine Solutions.

Peter Chew, Managing Director of PSA Marine, remarked: "Wartsila is a renowned brand that has a strong dual-fuel technology track record. As an owner and operator of harbour tugs, we are on the constant look-out for innovative and cutting-edge solutions to achieve new milestones in the way we operate our fleet. We are excited about this collaboration and look forward to leveraging Wartsila's expertise in this area."

PSA Marine - a company that provides pilotage and towage services in Singapore - was awarded a contract to build one dual-fuel LNG harbour tug towards the end of last year, and said it would be awarding another contract to build its second dual-fuel LNG harbour tug in 2018.

As part of Singapore's funding initiative for LNG vessels, PSA Marine will receive a grant of up to S$2 million for each tug from the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

In December, Bunker Index reported that Pavilion Gas, a wholly owned subsidiary of Pavilion Energy, was awarded a contract to supply LNG to the two aforementioned dual-fuel PSA Marine harbour tug newbuilds, which are both due to be delivered next year.
