Gazpromneft-Lubricants inks Nornickel supply deal

Nornickel set to receive 80 tonnes of marine lubricants in the first half of 2018.

Updated on 05 Mar 2018 11:48 GMT

Gazpromneft-Lubricants has signed an agreement to supply marine lubricants to ships operated by mining and metallurgical company MMC Norilsk Nickel (Nornickel).

The products are intended to be used on medium-speed, four-stroke marine engines installed aboard container ships, tankers and icebreakers used by Nornickel's Murmansk Transportation branch.

In the first half of 2018, 80 tonnes of lubricants are planned to be delivered as part of the deal to Nornickel.

Roman Miroshnichenko, Branch Director (Marine Lubricants) at Gazpromneft-Lubricants, remarked: "Due to the high quality of our products, we can ensure the reliable operation of vessels carrying out transportation along the Northern Sea Route. Marine lubricants we produce are recommended for use even in the harshest Arctic conditions."

The Arctic transport fleet of Nornickel consists of modern, ice-class vessels capable of operating in any location. The dry cargo fleet provides year-round communication between the seaports of Dudinka, Murmansk, Arkhangelsk, Rotterdam and Hamburg.

The tanker Yenisei delivers gas condensate to European ports from the Pelyatkinskoye gas condensate field (the Krasnoyarsk region), whilst the icebreaker Dudinka is used for icebreaking and port operations in the water area of Dudinka port on the Yenisei River.

Nornickel is a diversified mining and metallurgical company - the largest refined nickel and palladium producer in the world and a leading producer of platinum, cobalt, copper and rhodium. The company also produces gold, silver, iridium, selenium, ruthenium and tellurium.

The production units of Norilsk Nickel Group are located in the Norilsk Industrial District and the Kola Peninsula in Russia as well as Harjavalta nickel refinery in Finland.

Gazpromneft-Lubricants claims to have a 15 percent share of the marine lubricant market in Russia. The company operates in 72 countries covering the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Baltic, Europe, Central and Southeast Asia, Africa and South America.

Through its integration into Chevron's global supply chain, Gazpromneft-Lubricants' clients are able to obtain marine oils in more than 800 ports worldwide.
