World's first mass-produced, dual-use USV requires bunkers every two days

27 Dec 2017 15:42 GMT

Can be used as a regular vessel or operated remotely.

A new vessel revealed by UAE firm Al Marakeb Boat Manufacturing Company, the B7X, has been dubbed the world's first ever mass-produced, dual-use unmanned surface vessel (USV) for commercial purposes.

According to Al Marakeb, the B7X can be used for a wide variety of potential defence and civil applications, including vessel monitoring, law enforcement, automated commercial transportation, search and rescue and surveillance, among others.

The new USV model comes equipped with a MAP Pro conversion kit - developed by Al Marakeb subsidiary MAP Marine Technologies (MAP-Tech) - which converts regular manned vessels to unmanned models, allowing the boat to be driven as a regular vessel or be operated remotely from a ground control station.

The vessel can be monitored and controlled from across various points in the globe through the MAP global network and can operate for 48 hours straight before refuelling, Al Marakeb says.

"The launch of the B7X further demonstrates the country's commitment to become a leading proponent of unmanned technologies," said Nour Al Sayyed, Director of Operations at Al Marakeb.

Al Marakeb says it is actively seeking to becoming a leading player in the UAE's aim to integrate autonomous technologies.
