Two years since launch of world's second LNG-fuelled boxship

30 Aug 2017 10:38 GMT

TOTE ship was part of a two-ship contract signed in December 2012.

This week marks the second anniversary since the launch of the world's second LNG-fuelled containership, the Perla Del Caribe.

Constructed for transportation and logistics company TOTE Maritime, the Marlin-class vessel was christened and launched at General Dynamics NASSCO's shipyard in San Diego on August 29, 2016.

Built as part of a two-ship contract signed in December 2012 with TOTE, the 764-foot-long Perla Del Caribe was launched four months after its sister ship - and the world's first LNG-powered container vessel - the Isla Bella.

Since their delivery between late 2015 and early 2016, the two ships have been operating between Jacksonville, Florida, and San Juan in Puerto Rico.
