Europe's first pro LNG training centre promoted at MEPC 71

07 Jul 2017 10:39 GMT

Three-day course covering small-scale LNG and bunkering operations is due to take place in September.

Spain's delegation at the London headquarters of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) during the 71st session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) has presented Europe's first training centre for LNG professionals: the International School of LNG (isLNG).

Located in Gijon, northern Spain, the training centre has been set up by Enagas, a specialist in the design, construction and operation of natural gas infrastructure and owner of one of the world's largest regasification plant networks, and Salvamento Maritimo, Spain's maritime safety agency.

Training takes place in two centres located 12 kilometres apart: Salvamento Maritimo's Jovellanos Centre and Enagas's Musel regasification plant.

The Jovellanos Centre has been providing professional maritime training for more than 20 years and is the LNG school's new venue for both technical and practical training.

The Musel terminal is owned by Enagas and has two tanks, each with a 150,000-cubic-metre (cbm) storage capacity. isLNG describes the facility as "the perfect setting to put into practice the acquired knowledge".

For the month of September, isLNG currently has three courses available:

- Small-scale LNG and Bunkering Operations (3-day course)

- LNG Safe Handling (2-day course)

- Operation and Mainenance of LNG Regasification Plants (3-day course)

The training centre can be contacted via email at info[at]islng.com or by phone on +34 91 709 9500
