RINA Services has verified that the entire fleet of d'Amico Group meets EU regulation 2015/757 requirements for the monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) of CO2 emissions.

The fleet comprises 36 vessels that are managed by d'Amico Societa di Navigazione and 35 vessels managed by its subsidiary Ishima Pte.Ltd.

The EU MRV regulation entered into force on July 1, 2015, and requires ship owners and operators to annually monitor, report and verify CO2 emissions for vessels larger than 5,000 gross tonnes (GT) calling at any EU or EFTA port.

By August 2017, ship owners must submit to their verifier the CO2 Monitoring Plan of each ship in their fleet. Then, from January 2018 onwards, they will be required to monitor the emissions, fuel consumption and other parameters, which will have to be reported on an annual basis and verified.

The aggregated ship emission and efficiency data is to be published by the European Commission by June 30, 2019, and then every consecutive year thereafter.

"We created the Fleet Performance Monitoring department more than five years ago. We were among the first ones in Europe to do so and this allowed us to gain a significant competitive advantage on MRV compliance. We recognised the environmental and commercial benefits of meeting the new regulations and we are pleased to have worked with RINA on this initiative," said Salvatore d'Amico, Fleet Director of d'Amico Group.

D'Amico's Monitoring Plan consists of a complete documentation of monitoring methods, and contains a description of the procedures and systems used for determining, recording and storing all measurements required by the EU MRV regulation.

"We are particularly pleased to have worked with d'Amico on this task. They are the first company to have the entire fleet MRV verified by RINA. We have been accredited by ACCREDIA for this activity and we are also a designated operational entity (DOE) accredited by UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) for the validation and verification of CDM [Clean Development Mechanism] projects. We have all the credentials and the experience to assist the maritime industry in contributing to the global greenhouse gas emissions reduction," said Paolo Moretti, Chief Commercial Officer, Marine & Transport, RINA Services.
