Bunker-saving Stena Impeccable named in ceremony

29 Jun 2017 10:51 GMT

Ship's fuel consumption is said to be 10-20% lower than that of equivalent vessels.

The IMOIIMAX MR tanker Stena Impeccable was named in a ceremony in Rotterdam on June 29.

Like all the 13 IMOIIMAX tankers ordered by Stena Bulk (both delivered and under construction), the vessel was built at the Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI) shipyard in China. It was delivered in China at the beginning of March.

The IMOIIMAX concept is designed to carry IMO 2 and 3 cargoes as well as clean and dirty products. The vessels are all equipped with 18 cargo tanks, each with a maximum capacity of 3,000 cubic metres, as well as a nitrogen-based inert gas system. The technical design of the IMOIIMAX was developed by Stena Teknik in collaboration with GSI.

The vessel is said to offer several advantages, including cargo flexibility, a high level of safety and a reduced fuel consumption - 10 to 20 percent lower than that of equivalent vessels when sailing at service speed, according to Stena Bulk.

The Stena Impeccable is wholly owned by Stena Bulk, and operated by Stena Weco.

Six of the 13 IMOIIMAX tankers are wholly owned by Stena Bulk, four are jointly owned with Golden Agri Resources (GAR), two are owned by Stena Bulk's sister company Concordia Maritime and one in partership with Stena Weco. All the IMOIIMAX tankers are to be operated by Stena Weco, which currently employs more than 60 vessels.

So far, 10 of the 13 IMOIIMAX tankers have been delivered; they are: Stena Impression, Stena Image, Stena Imperial, Stena Important, Stena Imperative, Stenaweco Impulse, Stena Imagination, Stena Immortal, Stena Immaculate and Stena Impeccable.

The remaining three ships are scheduled to be delivered by 2018.
