Matrix Bharat launches bunker supply operation in Mumbai and Jawahar Dweep

Mumbai service to focus on supplying ships at the port's Outer Port Limits (OPL).

Updated on 18 May 2017 15:01 GMT

Indian bunker firm Matrix Bharat Pte. Ltd. (MXB) has launched a physical supply operation in Mumbai and started providing deliveries in nearby Jawahar Dweep, also known as Butcher Island.

The company will be supplying clients with products at Mumbai's Outer Port Limits (OPL), servicing vessels that are waiting to berth, as well as those making bunkers-only calls and benefiting from paying reduced port charges.

Storage and products

MXB will be utilizing Bharat Petroleum's (BPCL) total tank storage capacity of 72,000 metric tonnes (mt), operating one tank storing 32,000 mt of fuel products, which is the largest in Mumbai.

MXB says it will initially be able to provide customers with RMG 380 (ISO 8217:2005 and 2010), and that it is also in discussions with BPCL to operate one storage tank with a capacity of 8,000 mt for the supply of marine gasoil (MGO) in the near future.

Barges

Five bunker barges, ranging in size from 650 mt to 1,200 mt, are to be used to carry out deliveries in Mumbai.

At Jawahar Dweep, bunker barge loading will take place from Berth No. 2, where the pipeline is fitted with marine loading arms - this enables MXB to connect to the barge manifold in just 30 minutes. The flow rate for pipeline deliveries is a rapid 850 mt per hour.

Product loading for bunker barges is available around the clock, thus reducing the lead-time for bunker deliveries.

Commenting on the news, Ashok Sharma, India Head (Marketing Support & Supplies) at MXB, said: "The launch of physical operations in Mumbai OPL is in line with our growth strategy, utilizing the storage and supply strengths of our joint venture companies, and providing customers with the best possible marine fuel products and services. Our focus is based on providing cost efficiencies for our customers, while ensuring the highest levels of supply, from order through to delivery.

"In addition to our operations in India, we are also able to provide services to other ports east of Suez, including Fujairah, Singapore and Sri Lanka."
