Asian port starts the year with a bang as 380 cSt sales hit new high.

Singapore recorded the highest monthly sales figure in its history during the month of January, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Sales at the world's leading bunker port rose by 557,300 tonnes, or 14.3 percent, to 4,462,200 tonnes, up from 3,904,900 tonnes in December. The figure beats the previous record of 4,363,700 tonnes sold in May 2016.

In comparison with the corresponding month last year, bunker sales were up 297,700 tonnes, or 7.1 percent.

Sales of 380 centistoke (cSt) also hit a new historical high in January, with Singapore selling 3,339,100 tonnes, surpassing the 3,295,600-tonne amount delivered in August 2015.

Month-on-month, 380 cSt sales were up 459,300 tonnes, or 15.9 percent; year-on-year, January's sales figure was 134,800 tonnes, or 4.2 percent higher.

Deliveries of 500 cSt increased by 75,100 tonnes, or 9.2 percent, to 893,300 tonnes compared to December. In a year-on-year comparison, volumes were 169,600 tonnes, or 23.4 percent higher. It was also the fourth best monthly sales figure in the port's history.

Sales of low-sulphur marine gas oil (MGO LS) in January rose to 117.800 tonnes - the second-biggest amount ever recorded in Singapore.
