New Iran facility has a total storage capacity of more than 50,000 tonnes.

Updated on 30 Jan 2017 10:08 GMT

The first phase of a new marine fuel distribution facility has been inaugurated at Qeshm Island, Iran.

Attending the inauguration ceremony were representatives of the three companies with an ownership stake in the facility: Mohammad Saeidi, managing director of Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL); Sirus Kian Ersi, managing director of National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC); Hamidreza Momeni, managing director of Qeshm Free Zone Organization.

Of the three stakeholders, IRISL has the largest share: 60 percent, whilst Qeshm Free Zone Organization and NITC have a 25 percent and 15 percent stake in the bunkering facility, respectively.

The Qeshm Island facility has a total storage capacity of 52,600 tonnes and comprises ten tanks that are each able to hold up to 5,260 tonnes of fuel.

During subsequent phases of the project, the capacity of the facility is planned to be increased to 100,000 tonnes, and, ultimately, to 750,000 tonnes, in line with a projected increase in demand.
