Singapore records best November bunker sales in its history

13 Dec 2016 10:25 GMT

First time that more than 4 million tonnes have been sold in this month.

The port of Singapore recorded the best November bunker sales figure in its history last month, beating the previous record of 3,984,000 tonnes (in November 2015) by 158,200 tonnes, or 4 percent, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port rose by 133,100 tonnes, or 3.3 percent, to 4,142,200 tonnes last month, up from 4,009,100 tonnes in October.

As well as being the best ever November sales figure, it is the first time that volumes of over 4 million tonnes have been recorded in this month. It is the fourth month-on-month climb in five months.

The port's record of consecutive rolling 3-month sales of more than 12 million tonnes came to an end in November, however. Between September and November, 11,982,300 tonnes were sold. Prior to this, sales of over 12 million tonnes had been recorded over a period of six consecutive months.

Accumulated bunker sales between January and November were 44,709,400 tonnes, which represents an increase of 3,605,000 tonnes, or 8.8 percent, compared to 2015 (41,104,400 tonnes). It is the highest figure ever recorded for the first 11 months of the year.

With just one month of the year to go, Singapore looks set to sell over 48.5 million tonnes for the first time, surpassing last year's figure of 45,155,600 tonnes.

380 cSt and 500 cSt

Sales of 380 centistoke (cSt) - Singapore's best-selling bunker grade - rose by 79,700 tonnes, or 2.7 percent, to 3,067,700 tonnes in November compared to the previous month. It is Singapore's best ever November sales figure and the first time that more than 3 million tonnes have been sold in this month. It beats last year's record of 2,977,400 tonnes by 90,300 tonnes, or 3.0 percent.

500 cSt volumes were also the best ever recorded for the month of November at 858,800 tonnes - up 64,900 tonnes, or 8.2 percent, on the previous month. Compared to last year (the previous record), the figure was up 38,800 tonnes, or 4.7 percent.

Below are tables of monthly bunker sales in Singapore for each fuel grade since 2015 with accumulated annual totals in the bottom row.
