Award to go to firm that has demonstrated 'commitment to quality standards, quantity assurances and customer satisfaction'.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has announced that nominations for the 2017 edition of the Singapore International Maritime Awards (IMAs) are now open.

The biennial awards serve to recognize individuals and companies for their outstanding contributions to Singapore's development as a leading international port and maritime centre.

Bunker award

The IMAs will feature seven award categories that are open to nominations, one of which is the bunker award.

According to the MPA, the bunker accolade will be given to "the outstanding bunker supplier or bunker craft operator in Singapore that has demonstrated commitment to quality standards, quantity assurances and customer satisfaction."

Recent winners of the bunker award have been listed below.

2015: BP Singapore
2013: Shell Eastern Trading (Pte) Ltd.
2011: Sentek Marine & Trading Pte Ltd.
2009: Global Energy Trading Pte. Ltd.

Other awards open to nominations

The other six award categories that are open to nominations are:

- International Maritime Centre (IMC) Award

Awarded to the individual or company that has contributed significantly towards the development of Singapore as an International Maritime Centre.

- Excellence in Manpower Training Development Award

Awarded to the organisation or institute of higher learning that has contributed to the development of manpower in Singapore by demonstrating commitment towards the nurturing, grooming and training of people, or excellence in training.

- Outstanding Maritime R&D and Technology Award

Awarded to the company or research institution in Singapore for outstanding innovation in the research, development, or test-bedding of technology for the maritime industry.

- SRS Ship Owner of the Year Award

Awarded to the outstanding owner of quality Singapore-registered ships.

- Maritime Service Provider Award

Awarded to the maritime service provider that has demonstrated exceptional professional performance and contribution to Singapore's maritime industry.

- Offshore & Marine Engineering Award

Awarded to the company that has contributed significantly towards the development of Singapore's Offshore & Marine Engineering sector.

SRS Green Ship of the Year Award

An eighth accolade, the SRS Green Ship of the Year Award, recognises quality Singapore-registered ships with energy efficient ship designs. This category is to be evaluated and awarded based on the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) and/or other additional energy efficient measures, such as the use of abatement technologies and alternate fuels.

Selection process

The winner for each of the seven awards will be selected by a judging panel, to be chaired by the chairman of the MPA, the chief executive of the MPA, as well as key industry representatives.

The winners are to be notified by the MPA and receive their awards at the Singapore International Maritime Awards gala dinner to be held on 25th April 2017 in conjunction with the 12th Singapore Maritime Week.

The closing date for the submission of entries is 6th January 2017.
