Augusta barge back in service

24 Apr 2015 13:27 GMT

Italian supplier now has two barges carrying out deliveries in south-east Sicily.

Italian bunker supplier Maxcom Bunker S.p.A has announced that its barge M/V Punta Azzurra is now back in service at the port of Augusta. Together with its other vessel, M/V Punta Rossa, the company has two delivery barges operating in south-east Sicily.

"With two barges in service we can now start to supply again at Santa Panagia / Melilli for tankers working at the local installation, but only [during] daylight [hours], before or after cargo operations at the anchorage and subject [to] weather conditions," the company said in an email announcement.

The Punta Azzurra is a double-hull vessel with a capacity to store up to 1,380 metric tonnes of intermediate fuel oil (IFO) and 200 metric tonnes of marine gas oil (MGO). Its pumping rates are around 500 cubic metres (cbm) per hour for IFO and 60 cbm per hour for MGO.

The Punta Rossa is a single-hull barge with an IFO storage capacity of 1,040 metric tonnes and an MGO capacity of 480 metric tonnes. The pumping rates are around 500 cbm per hour for IFO and 120 cbm per hour for MGO.

Santa Panagia

In March 2014, Maxcom announced that it was able to carry out deliveries at Santa Panagia Roads for tankers working cargo at the ISAB Impianti Sud Refinery - a 320,000-barrel-per-day (16 million tonnes per annum) facility located approximately 14 kilometres from Augusta in south-east Sicily.

Speaking to Bunker Index at the time, bunker trader Alberto Pampaloni explained that this was a new development for the company as it previously did not have permission to use its barges and supply infrastructure in Augusta to carry out deliveries at Santa Panagia.

Since being granted permission, the company has been able to carry out deliveries sourcing 380 centistoke (cSt) and MGO product from Augusta.

The service is available to tankers working at the ISAB Impianti Sud Refinery. Bunker deliveries can be made either before or after cargo operations, they are required to begin during daylight hours, and no supply operations take place on Sundays.
